Buddha’s period was 563 BC to 483 BC. Archaeologists in Nepal stated that they have found an ancient Buddhist shrine that confirms the belief that Gautama Buddha may have lived 600 years before the birth of Jesus. His birth name was Siddhartha Gautama. After he attained enlightenment his name was changed to Buddha.

Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini( Nepal). His father’s name was Suddhodana and his mother’s name was Maya. She died on the seventh day after Siddhartha was born. Siddhartha married Yasodhara at the age of 16. A son was born to them and his name was Rahula. Siddhartha’s father made all the provisions for him in the palace. So he lived happily in the palace without knowing the outside world. At the age of 29, he thought about life. Once he went out of the palace with his assistant he saw four scenes.

1. Very old man
2. A patient
3. A rotting corpse
4. Sage

With these scenes, he started realizing the misery of human life. After that, he travelled towards the forest to discover the secrets of life. There he sat in meditation for several days without taking a bath and there he got some good disciples. At a certain point, he started realizing that he was grieving himself and if it continues he would die without attaining his goal. So he decided to give up Penance. After that, he went near the river to take a bath. There he realized that he was not able to stand just because of the water force on the river. A cowherd girl noticed it and once he completed his bath she fed him the rice she had brought.

At the age of 35, he sat under a bodhi tree at Gaya in the present-day state of Bihar. In a week he realized the cause of anxiety and suffering at the same time he felt very happy for the first time. He realized that understanding is the foundation of wisdom. The place where the Buddha attained enlightenment is today known as Budhakaya. Many followed him and became his disciples for the next 45 years of his life.
